Help Convert EDpuzzles to Google Form Quizzes!
2020.08.23: Brad Williams has begun the arduous process of creating Google Form Quizzes for all Flipping Physics videos. Here is a Google Doc with all the links. If you’d like to collaborate in the conversion process, please email him. Thank you Brad!
EDpuzzle Lesson views do not count as views on YouTube.
2020.03.27: I’ll start with what you most need to know from my post. One week from today I will be removing all EDpuzzle links from my Flipping Physics website. If you need those links for any reason, please grab them before Friday, April 3.
“But … Why?” You might ask.
Well, as I detailed last Sunday, EDpuzzle Lesson views do not count as views on YouTube. The response to that video from y’all warmed my heart. Many of you donated money, decided to stop using EDpuzzle, and/or emailed EDpuzzle about the issue. Because of that, I finally have a clear answer from Quim Sabrià, the CEO of EDpuzzle. Here is his explanation as to why.
“When students watch YouTube through Edpuzzle, they’re streaming through youtube-nocookie.com, an approved YouTube URL that protects our students’ privacy and makes Edpuzzle COPPA and FERPA compliant. Due to YouTube’s policies, it does not display ads and therefore does not track views. As YouTube has also been making some major changes to how content is labeled for minors, this also restricts views that are being tracked, as this content cannot display ads. Unfortunately, we are not going to stop using youtube-nocookie.com and push ads to our users as it would be against COPPA and FERPA and make Edpuzzle illegal to use for most of our users. I hope you understand that it's not an option for us.”
Unfortunately, that means EDpuzzle has a parasitic relationship with educational YouTube creators. EDpuzzle takes views away from the very video creators they need in order to have a business. Taking views away from YouTube videos means YouTube ranks those videos as less popular and therefore promotes those videos less which makes those videos less popular therefore harming those YouTube creators.
Thank you all very much for your support with regards to this issue. I feel loved by this community. And I will cease and desist with bothering y’all about it. Unless there is good news, someday.
Please stay healthy, physically distant, and a little bit sane.
Jonathan (aka, mr.p, Billy, Bobby, Bo)
p.s. The switching away from EDpuzzle many of you did has resulted in a 25% increase in watch time on my channel when comparing this week to last week, which is lovely. Thank you!
