The basics, don’ts and do’s of making flipping videos your students will actually want to watch.  Here is my presentation in PowerPoint and .pdf.

53:11 How I put Billy, Bobby and Bo on the screen at the same time

I received some questions about the technical aspects of creating this video in particular, so here goes:
  1. The video is a mix of 2 video cameras, the presentation slides, external audio and a screen capture of the presentation itself.
  2. The two video cameras were, a Canon Vixia HV40 at the back of the room and an iPhone 5s at the front of the room which shows the audience. (I forgot to make sure I had enough disk space in the iPhone and it ran out after 47 minutes of video, oops)
  3. For audio I used a Rode VideoMic attached to the Canon Vixia HV40 near the back of the room and a Zoom H4n stereo microphone near the front of the room.  This way I would have audio of both me and the audience.  The audio in the video is mix from the two.
  4. During the presentation I was logged into the presentation as a guest on a second laptop so that I could monitor what the virtual attendees were seeing and I ran a screen capture using Quicktime Player so that I could mix the "chat pod" into this video.
  5. From PowerPoint, I exported each slide as a picture because the quality of the screen capture was not good enough for my standards.
  6. I used Final Cut Pro X to mix all of the above pieces together.  I would estimate that it took me about 6 hours to edit the Full Presentation video.

Below is the original pre-conference homework video.

Future Session Attendees!!! This is your homework:

As described in the video, please make a list of your suggestions for what to do and what not to do when making flipping videos.  You will get a chance to share during the session.
